An Extremely Rare Opportunity for 4 people to Spend a Day with The Household Cavalry.

Kindly donated by The Household Cavalry

From the moment you step through the gates of their Knightsbridge Barracks, you’ll be amazed at what takes place inside. On arrival at 10am you’ll be met by an officer who will be your host for the day. First you will watch the formal inspection of the Queen’s Life Guard before they mount their daily guard duty at Horse Guards. Then a relaxing coffee break with the officers before visiting the stables where the black, grey and drum horses live. Next a welcome to the forge by the Farrier Major, followed by a tour of the saddlers with the Master Saddler, and the Full Dress Store of ceremonial uniforms. Finally there’s just time to watch the Queen’s Life Guard dismount before having a drink and lunch in the Officers’ Mess. Your visit will end with an afternoon visit to the Household Cavalry Museum at Horse Guards’ parade.

Every Household Cavalryman is a fighting soldier. The Household Cavalry’s unofficial motto is “Best of Both Worlds: Operational and Ceremonial”. Their official motto is that of The Order of The Garter: “Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense!” (“Evil be to him who evil thinks!”) The Household Cavalrymen on ceremonial parades such as the State Opening of Parliament, or The Queen’s Birthday Parade, or State Visits are fully trained operationally. They may have crewed armoured vehicles in combat in Iraq or Afghanistan, or during training on the Canadian prairie or Salisbury Plain,. The four historic regiments that form today’s Household Cavalry have fought in every major British Army campaign since the Restoration of The Monarchy in 1660. So, by the time your tour ends, you’ll be filled with renewed pride for centuries-old ceremonial traditions being continued, and the breadth and depth of skills possessed by Household Cavalrymen, and their unwavering service for their country.
